As some parishes are struggling to attract young people, our Saint Sebastian/Saint Catherine collaboration is finding that a growing number of young families choose to call us home – we had some 60 baptisms at Saint Sebastian alone last year. We believe our strong school, active community and vibrant liturgies are leading people here to the west side.

Yet, while some of our specific programs are strong, our parish leadership sees a need to consider the changing nature of faith formation in our parishes and the ever-increasingly changing society. That’s why we are moving forward with an exciting vision of lifelong faith formation.

First, we are searching for an individual who will serve the Young Adults and Youth of both parishes. This position will be centered on strong relational ministry: Catechesis and formation (especially Confirmation) will remain at the core, but we plan to expand outreach and social aspects of this ministry to truly connect our young peoples’ active lives with their faith.

We are also searching for someone to coordinate our Child Ministry Programs – Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at Saint Catherine, Sunday School for Children at Saint Sebastian, and sacramental preparation for Reconciliation and Eucharist as a shared ministry.

Finally, Ed Duncklee, who has served as Director of Faith Formation, will sharpen the focus of Adult Formation in both parishes and will serve as a staff resource to the Human Concern groups in both parishes.
