What a send-off! It was an amazing Saturday evening gathering of friends from all over who celebrated not only five years at St. Sebastian and St. Catherine (so far), but a whole 42 years of priesthood. Did I detect a bit of a “bicycle” theme to the evening with fantastically creative decorations and cakes too beautiful to cut up and eat (but we did it anyway)? I have been generously blessed by God through each of you.
It was the beautiful blessings, words of congratulations and best wishes, the hugs and even tears, the great liturgical singing of choir, musicians, and whole assembly at all our Pentecost and Trinity Sunday Masses. I have been generously blessed by God through each of you.
It has been the numerous cards and greetings in the hallways and on the streets, all kinds of gifts – am I detecting an M & M and other chocolates theme here? – and the joy that this is not “goodbye,” but simply passing on the “pastoring” of St. Catherine and St. Sebastian Parishes. I have been generously blessed by God through each of you.
The thought, the feeling in my heart, keeps echoing: I have been generously blessed by God through each of you. This entire week I keep thinking, “There must be a God who is a God of love and clearly works through God’s People.”
So, as inadequate as it seems to be, I say THANK YOU for dispelling all fears and worries about whether or not I could be your pastor, for being parishes that take growing in faith and living it in the community so seriously – and with fun, and for a great final days as your pastor.
By the way, since I will not have parish email address anymore, I want to share with you that I will be reachable at email@example.com in the future.
Continued Blessings of Peace and Strength to all.
Fr. Larry Chapman
NOTE: Fr. Larry will continue to say Mass at St. Catherine and St. Sebastian this fall. Mass schedules are listed in the bulletin.
