Families in the parishes of St. Catherine and St. Sebastian are encouraged to participate in our variety of faith formation opportunities offered for children, youth, and adults. Families may choose to participate in any program in either parish whether or not it is your “home” parish.

Faith Formation Classes – Grades K4-6

Basic faith formation for children involves age-specific classes at St. Sebastian from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on two Sunday mornings each month.  This program offers scripture-centered catechetical education, supplements to take faith home, regular opportunities for prayer and service to others, and special programs for families and individuals. Classes are scheduled to facilitate family participation in one of our Sunday morning liturgies.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd – Ages 3-12

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori-based approach to the religious formation of children held at St. Catherine. It is rooted in Sacred Scripture, liturgy, and respect for the child’s rich relationship with God. Central to CGS is the Atrium, a room containing beautiful materials that focus the child’s attention on key scripture passages or liturgical moments.  Children are encouraged to move about, touch materials, discover and develop a relationship with Jesus, the Good Shepherd.

Youth Ministry – Grades 7-8 and Grades 9-10

Youth Ministry meets two Sundays each month at St. Sebastian. Sunday mornings include a 9:00 a.m. session with the option to attend Mass before or after class. On the Sunday evenings, the teens gather and serve as greeters, readers, cantors and ushers at 6:00 p.m. Mass, followed by a light potluck meal, and then a catechetical lesson. We also provide our youth with programs and activities all year long, which provide opportunities for fun, service, and faith sharing.

Family Faith Formation

An essential part of our Family and Youth Formation are the Family Programs, which are intergenerational lessons focused on one topic.  We schedule four of these Family Programs each year at St. Sebastian, usually building upon a core theme or teaching of the Church.  Each Family Program involves sharing a meal and take-home lessons for continued learning.  All families are expected to participate in the Family Programs.
